The ship map is a design I was working on a few months ago. I never really got around to finishing it. The focus of this suggestion isn't the ship design; I just decided to use it as an example to demonstrate a terrain idea.

I’ve been toying with the idea of a slightly different terrain type for a while now. Although the ship terrain in the example could be destroyed in the normal way, I thought it’d be interesting to have a ‘splash’ effect when the water terrain is hit by explosives. A resulting hole would be left by the impact, but a splash would also be produced – the splashes of terrain would then accumulate around the hole, creating an uneven ridge (see Figure 2). I don’t think I’ve explained this very well, but unfortunately I’m having trouble with the program I use to create animations (hence the shaky, clumsy design), so I can’t physically demonstrate. I’ve created a rough image example, though:

Obviously, the impact size would have an effect on the size of the ‘splash’. A Big Boom, for instance, would cause a much larger explosion and, therefore, a larger amount of ‘splashing’.

Alternatively, the ‘water’ could spread out when it comes in contact with surrounding terrain, filling nearby holes. I’m not too sure how easy this would be to implement, though, and it would probably cause a lot of lagging.

Swamp terrain = Difficult for eggs to move in (half speed). Due to the soft consistency of the terrain, weapons such as knives, bows and rifles can also create holes.

the idea bit itself is clear and nice, giving the "splash" effect coudl help and bring change to the game, since the shape will blok the jump or teh jump+low g, easy way to ge tout of a hole.

I suggested along time ago , the idea of get different hardness and softness and diferent shapes to dmg to the terrain, and your idea of spalsh will complete those suggestion, in a possitive manner.

Regarding if the shape or extra border on the impact zone coudl be added, honestly i dont know, since the game use a simple code of terrain modification, circle shape+size

now if u let me complete ur idea, or add an extra efdfect, if you talk about splach what about having particles flying after the explotion, and falling over the terrain generating an new terrain / obstacle so u have thsi way 3 modifications as a consecuence of explotion,hole+new border+ new mini terrain acumulations.

Sounds like a fun idea, I wouldn't actually enjoy this a lot! Maybe even eggs could float in the water to travel across terrain somehow, that could also be nice.

Wow, nice idea Smiley_ThumbsUp. But the terrain would never dissappear from the map because it would accumulate somewhere else.

I hadn't thought of the effect that the 'splash' terrain could have on jumping and low gravity. That's a very good point. Thank you!

@Smashed: Yes, it'd be interesting to see that sort of effect on movement.

@Jach: I see what you mean, but I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing. A lot of people dislike playing on flat maps, so the splashes would just rearrange the current terrain. Although if you look at the example, the size of the hole is disproportionate to the accumulated terrain around it - if this effect was added, half of the terrain would probably still be lost.

If a big boom is used in this map, it would result maybe the other player being fully covered with water. Since the explosion is high, the 'splash' too will be high, which will almost act like a curvy wall to the other player. This would lead to unfair advantage to the player who gets the first turn.

This mode could be modified to be something like - All pro's can have a a option that 'splash' happens or not, regardless of the map. I know this sounds pretty stupid but nevertheless what would the world be without someone like me ? Smiley_XD.

Although if this map was limited to some weapons, like grenade, bazooka, Knives, Boot etc. could be a good party mode. Smiley_Smile

P.S. - > Imagine the splash with a big boom in 2x explosion. Smiley_Dead

@Avenger: That's a good point, but I think it could be easily rectified by placing a maximum limit on the splash radius. I'm not sure how well something like this would work with all maps, though. Maps like Oozing Cavern and Platform Paradise probably wouldn't be very compatible due to the ledges. The majority of the terrain would probably just fall to the bottom, leaving quite a boring map. I know you said that the main point isn't the ship map, but i'm tellin ya, just your design of it is really thinking out of the box. +1 *applauds*

P.S. I like the idea as well, though you are solely focusing on just water & splash. What about other types of terrain?

I have to admit, I haven't given a huge amount of thought to other terrain types. I did consider a lava terrain (combination of normal dirt/rock terrain and shallow lava pools - the latter of which would deal -1 damage per second on an egg being in contact with the lava during their turn), but I'm pretty sure that something similar has been suggested before.

Not to be taken as a serious suggestion, though, as I'm pretty sure I remember somebody suggesting the idea of a volcanic map (troll2, I think). But yeah, I've not thought about alternate terrains beyond that so far.
